Working Principle
Electrolyzers function by electrolyzing water into hydrogen and oxygen via an electrochemical process. This occurs within a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, comprising two fundamental components: an anode and a cathode, segregated by a proton-conducting membrane.
At the anode, water molecules decompose into oxygen (O2) and positively charged hydrogen ions (H+), driven by an external electric current. The proton-exchange membrane selectively permits protons to traverse, segregating them from electrons. In the cathode chamber, protons pass through the membrane, combining with oxygen and electrons to produce hydrogen gas (H2).
