The ultra-thin titanium porous transfer layer, based on Grade 1 titanium, stands as one of the thinnest products available in the market suitable for utilization as the anode diffusion media in standard PEM electrolyzers. In traditional PEM electrolyzers, metallic or titanium-based electrodes are predominantly employed on the oxygen (anode) side as the flow field or diffusion material. It is crucial for these products to exhibit superior mass transport capabilities and occupy minimal space, requirements that this porous transfer layer fulfills admirably.
Given that carbon-based gas diffusion layers (GDLs) cannot be utilized at the anode in electrolyzer hardware due to immediate oxidation leading to CO2 (in acidic mediums) or carbonate ions (in basic mediums), the titanium porous transfer layer emerges as an optimal diffusion medium. Additionally, this layer facilitates electrical contact between the anode catalyst layer and the bipolar plate or current collector component at the anode.
