Titanium Wire
A silver-white metal with numerous good qualities, pure titanium. At 4.54g/cm3, titanium is somewhat heavier than the venerable light metal magnesium and 43% lighter than steel. Comparable to steel, twice as strong as aluminum, and five times as strong as magnesium, respectively, in terms of mechanical strength. Titanium is high-temperature resistant, with a melting point of 1942K, nearly 1000K higher than gold, and nearly 500K higher than steel.

Titanium wire carburizing surface treatment
Carburization is a surface treatment process for titanium wire that involves the reaction of carbon and titanium to form a stable carbide layer with higher hardness. The growth of the carbide layer is determined by the diffusion rate of titanium in the carbide layer.
The solubility of carbon in titanium is low, ranging from 0.3% at 850°C to about 0.1% at 600°C. This low solubility makes it challenging to achieve surface hardening of akimbo titanium sheets and their sediments. Carburization should be carried out under deoxidation conditions to remove oxygen since carburizing with carbon monoxide or oxygenated carbon monoxide powder leads to surface layer hardness of up to 8,500 MPa, which easily peels off.
In contrast, carburizing in charcoal under deoxidation or decarburization conditions can result in the formation of a thin layer of titanium carbide with a hardness of 3200 MPa, similar to titanium carbide. The depth of the carburizing layer is greater than that of the nitriding layer under the same conditions. However, under oxygen-enriched conditions, the influence of oxygen absorption on the hardening depth must be considered. To form a sufficiently adhesive and hard titanium carbide hardening layer, carburization should be done under very thin layer thickness conditions, in a vacuum or in an argon-methane atmosphere, compared to using a gas carburizing agent. The titanium carbide layer gets brittle and starts to peel off as the layer thickness rises. When gas carburizes in inert gases, a precise dose of additives at about a 2% volume rate should be utilized to avoid carbon inclusion in the titanium carbide layer due to the breakdown rate. Lower surface hardness occurs when propane additives are used for carburizing with methane. The measured hardened layer thickness is quite thin, but it has the best wear resistance when the bonding force is up to 0.1 kPa and propane is applied. Although hydrogen can be absorbed with a gas carburizing agent, it must be removed during vacuum annealing. The hardening curve formed at temperatures between 950°C and 1020°C is between 50 µm and, respectively.
