Product Introduction

What is Titanium Electrode?

A titanium electrode is an electrode made from titanium metal that is commonly used in electrolysis processes. It is classified as an inert electrode, meaning that it does not react with the substances being electrolyzed and remains stable during the process.

Titanium is a popular material for electrodes because it is highly resistant to corrosion and has excellent conductivity. Additionally, it is lightweight, strong, and has a high melting point, which makes it suitable for use in high-temperature processes.

Titanium electrodes are commonly used in a wide range of applications, including the production of chemicals, electroplating, water treatment, and in the semiconductor industry. They can be manufactured in various shapes and sizes, such as plates, rods, tubes, and wires, to suit specific requirements.

electrolysis process

When an electrolytic solution, or molten electrolyte, is placed between two electrodes, an applied voltage causes electrons to flow from one electrode to the other. This process is called electrolysis.

In electrolysis, the electrodes are called cathode and anode, respectively. Electrons flow from the cathode into the electrolyte, causing the ions to undergo a reduction reaction in the electrolyte and be reduced to metals or other substances. At the same time, the electrons flowing out from the anode cause the ions in the electrolyte to undergo an oxidation reaction and be oxidized into gases or other substances.

Water electrolysis using titanium electrodes is a common method for splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. The following is the process of electrolyzing water and related details:

1. Prepare the electrolyzer: Insert two titanium electrodes into the water and connect them to a power source with wires. Add some electrolytes, such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, to the electrolyzer to increase the conductivity of the water.

2. Applied voltage: Apply a certain voltage and current through the power supply, so that electrons flow from the cathode to the water in the electrolyzer, thereby decomposing the water into hydrogen and oxygen.

3. Electrolysis reaction: During electrolysis, water molecules are broken down into hydrogen and oxygen ions, which move through the electrolytic cell. At the cathode, hydrogen ions accept electrons and are reduced to hydrogen gas, while at the anode, oxygen ions release electrons and are oxidized to oxygen.

4. Collecting products: Collecting the hydrogen and oxygen generated at the cathode and anode. Hydrogen and oxygen can be collected through pipes or tubes, or by collecting bubbles in water.

Three types of Coated Titanium Electrode

1. Platinum-coated titanium electrode: Platinum-coated titanium electrode is an electrode form in which a platinum coating is coated on the surface of a titanium electrode. Platinum-coated titanium electrodes have high catalytic activity, stability, and electrical conductivity, so they are widely used in the fields of electrolysis of water, electrochemical synthesis, and oxygen reduction reaction. In addition, platinum-coated titanium electrodes can also be used in fuel cells, electrochemical sensors, and electrochemiluminescence.

2. Ruthenium-iridium-titanium electrode: Ruthenium-iridium-titanium electrode is an electrode form in which ruthenium and iridium coatings are coated on the surface of titanium electrodes. Ruthenium-iridium-titanium electrodes have excellent corrosion resistance, catalytic activity, and stability, and are widely used in applications such as electrolysis, electrochemical synthesis, and electrochemical sensors. Especially under high temperature, high pressure and acidic environment, ruthenium iridium titanium electrode shows higher stability and catalytic activity.

3. Iridium-tantalum-titanium electrode: Iridium-tantalum-titanium electrode is an electrode form in which iridium and tantalum coatings are coated on the surface of titanium electrodes. Iridium-tantalum-titanium electrodes have excellent corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity and catalytic activity, so they are widely used in electrolysis, electrochemical synthesis, electrochemical sensors and other fields. In addition, iridium-tantalum-titanium electrodes can also be used in applications such as chemical batteries, electrolytic capacitors, and electrochemical corrosion.

Products Features

The use of titanium electrodes for electrolysis of water has the following advantages:

1. Strong corrosion resistance: Titanium electrodes have good corrosion resistance and can operate stably in harsh environments such as acid, alkali and high salinity. This stability allows titanium electrodes to be used for a long time without corrosion and wear, reducing the cost of maintenance and electrode replacement.

2. Good electrical conductivity: Titanium electrodes have high electrical conductivity, can efficiently transfer current, and improve the efficiency and output of electrolytic reactions.

3. Long life: Due to the high smoothness and uniformity of the surface of the titanium electrode, it is not easy to be corroded and worn, so the service life of the titanium electrode is long and it can work stably for a long time.

4. Adaptable to different electrolysis processes: Titanium electrodes can be used in various electrolysis processes, such as chlor-alkali electrolysis, metal electroplating, wastewater treatment, etc. This versatility makes titanium electrodes have a wide range of applications in different industrial fields.

5. Environmentally friendly: Compared with other electrode materials, titanium electrodes have less impact on the environment during production and use. Since titanium itself is a natural, renewable and non-toxic material, it is more environmentally friendly in applications such as electrolysis of water.
