The development of titanium coil products in my country started relatively late, beginning during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period. Currently, key technologies for producing low-alloy titanium coils are primarily controlled by a few major foreign manufacturers. In recent years, domestic enterprises have begun in-depth research and made initial progress. However, the demand for low-alloy titanium coils in China still heavily relies on imports, subjecting them to price and supply control from external sources. This situation hampers domestic production and allows for the export and market monopoly of titanium-processed products.
Titanium alloy coils find extensive applications in high-tech fields such as aerospace, submarines, nuclear power plants, medical care, high-end racing cars, as well as civil sectors like metallurgy, chemical industry, and decoration.
China has made significant progress in establishing several complete titanium coil production lines, surpassing the equipment capabilities of similar foreign manufacturers. In November 2008, domestic cold-rolled titanium coils achieved successful trial production, marking the formation of a complete production chain from sponge titanium to smelting, forging, rolling, finishing, and deep processing. The production technology for titanium coils has been continuously improved, accumulating substantial data and experience in manufacturing low-alloy wide-width titanium coils.
Medical Industry:
Due to its exceptional biocompatibility, titanium has long been the preferred material in the medical industry. With the growth of the tape market, the medical sector has shifted from relying on sheet production to favoring tape production. Tape production offers high precision and consistency, ensuring the safety of using titanium in medical applications. However, it also requires slightly higher strength index standards, which further drives the potential of the low-alloy titanium market in this field.
Civil Market:
In recent years, titanium has gained acceptance in the civilian market, particularly in construction and kitchen utensils. Titanium's usage in everyday life has become a strength for corporate promotion. It is being incorporated into emerging markets such as mobile phone cases, laptops, business card holders, and even business cards. Titanium serves as both a promotional tool and a medium for information transmission.
Pipe Applications:
Ti-3Al-2.5V alloy is primarily used for seamless tubes. These tubes can be processed into various crystallographic orientations, offering a range of texture options from radial to axial. The diverse textures of Ti-3Al-2.5V provide an effective means to enhance performance. Although this alloy has found applications in various structures, tube applications remain predominant.
Currently, virtually all commercial airliners employ Ti-3Al-2.5V hydraulic systems, and the alloy is increasingly utilized in chemical equipment. It exhibits the ability to withstand higher operating temperatures, improve efficiency, and significantly reduce environmental impact. Its excellent corrosion resistance in seawater has led to its adoption in seawater cooling systems and submarine oil exploration. Additionally, due to its high strength, low density, and good rigidity, Ti-3Al-2.5V is an excellent material for developing bicycle frames and golf clubs.
