Do you know the technical requirements for butt welding flanges?

Butt welding flanges, also known as neck welding flanges (WN), are commonly used pipe fittings that provide a secure connection between pipes. They have specific technical requirements to ensure their performance and reliability. Here are the technical requirements for butt welding flanges:

1. Manufacturing Process: Butt welding flanges are typically forged or formed through forging processes. When using steel plates or section steel, the following requirements must be met:

a. Ultrasonic inspection should be conducted to ensure there are no delamination defects.

b. Steel plates should be cut into strips along the rolling direction, bent, and butt welded to form a ring, creating a cylindrical surface. Direct machining of steel plates into welded neck flanges is not permitted.

c. The butt weld of the ring should have full penetration, ensuring a strong and durable connection.

d. Post-weld heat treatment is necessary for the butt weld of the circular ring. Additionally, 100% radiographic or ultrasonic flaw detection must be carried out, meeting the specified requirements.

2. Neck Slope: The outer slope of the neck of the butt welding flange should not exceed 7 degrees. This ensures proper alignment and sealing when connecting the flange to the pipe.

3. Technical Standards: The technical parameters and quality standards for butt welding flanges should comply with the relevant industry standards, such as JB4726-4728.

By adhering to these technical requirements, butt welding flanges can perform effectively in various applications and provide a reliable and leak-free connection between pipes.
