What is powder sintering?

Powder sintering involves raising the temperature of a green compact (pressed powder part) to a certain level and holding it at that temperature for a certain period of time. The sintering temperature is usually between 70% and 90% of the melting point of the powder metal. This will lead to a cohesive mechanism between the powder particles pressed together in the compact. Bonds within the compact are weak, and the pressed green part typically has just enough structural integrity to handle. The bonding that occurs during sintering greatly increases the strength of the part.
