The new hydrogen service combines low-carbon fuel and zero-emission technology, eliminating the reliance on diesel generators for mobile power in film and television production.
The Clean Mobile Power Program aims to find and provide cost-competitive zero-emission mobile power solutions on a large scale for the entertainment industry, including alternatives to diesel generators, which currently emit approximately 700,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually globally.
An institution in Toronto, Ontario, has announced the launch of a new hydrogen service that provides all the necessary power for outdoor filming in the film and television industry without the emissions associated with traditional diesel generators.
The first deployment of this service will take place in Toronto, one of the leading film production markets in North America, in the summer of 2024, followed by subsequent launches in other major markets. This service has been developed in close consultation with industry professionals to help the sector achieve its decarbonization goals.
This is a game-changer for the film and television industry, as it can provide low-carbon hydrogen fuel to production crews when needed and integrate all other zero-emission power technologies, such as rechargeable batteries, into a low-carbon energy system on set.
The Clean Mobile Power initiative is a strong embodiment of the industry's commitment to climate action, and it will drive the commercialization of sustainable systems not only within this sector but also in other industries reliant on mobile power generation.
