Platinum-titanium anodes for chrome plating are used as anodes for electroplating. Because of their good conductivity, not easy to passivate, and no lead chromate formed by lead anodes, the quality of the chromium layer is greatly improved, and it has irreplaceable advantages. However, improper maintenance during use can easily cause the platinum layer to fall off and affect its service life. Therefore, the maintenance of the platinum titanium anode is very important.

① Since the platinum titanium anode does not have the function of maintaining trivalent chromium in the chromium solution, the platinum titanium anode is lined with a lead strip whose area is one-twentieth of that of the titanium anode. The role of this lead bar is to maintain the stability of trivalent chromium, so the lead bar must be removed and cleaned every three months, otherwise it will not be conducive to the stability of trivalent chromium and affect the normal use of platinum-titanium anodes.
② The platinum coating on the platinum-titanium anode is very thin, and its main function is to prevent anode passivation caused by direct contact between titanium and chrome solution, so measures should be taken to avoid mechanical damage to the anode during work. For example, avoid rubbing platinum-titanium anodes with sharp tools or objects such as steel wire brushes, copper wire brushes, and files.
③ Platinum-titanium anodes are connected to the anode copper bar through copper strips or titanium screws. During work, all contact points should be checked frequently to prevent the loosening of screws or breakage of copper strips. These poor contacts will cause poor electrical conduction to generate local heat and heat, damage the anode or cause local passivation.
④ Platinum-titanium anodes are precious metals. The chemical properties of precious metals are generally prone to chemical reactions with hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. Therefore, in daily work, pay attention to the quality of softened water to avoid bringing chloride ions into the chromium tank; when cleaning the anode, it is forbidden to use Hydrochloric acid etching, the reason is that hydrochloric acid is highly permeable and easily corroded with platinum and titanium, which affects the service life of platinum and titanium anodes. It should be washed with a dilute sodium hydroxide solution and neutralized with a dilute sulfuric acid solution. After cleaning, the pH Value should be between 6-8.
