The most comprehensive explanation of flange knowledge

the structure of flange connection
flange

Working Mechanism: By tightening the bolts, the gasket between the sealing surfaces of the flanges is compressed and made solid, filling the uneven gaps on the flange sealing surfaces. This process prevents the medium from permeating through the capillary pores inside the gasket and leaking at the interface between the gasket and the sealing surface, thereby achieving pre-sealing.

The conditions to ensure a leak-proof flange connection are: during pre-tightening, the pre-tightening force acting on the gasket should not be lower than the pre-tightening sealing stress ratio, and during operation, the remaining stress ratio on the gasket should not be lower than the working sealing stress ratio.

types of flanges

According to the degree of integration between flanges and equipment or pipelines, flange connections can be classified into the following categories:

flange

Fixed Flange Connection: In this type of connection, the flange is permanently joined to the equipment or pipeline. This connection method is suitable for situations where frequent disassembly is not required, such as in permanent piping systems or equipment.

Slip-On Flange Connection: This connection method allows the flange to move slightly during assembly but is securely fixed by bolts once connected. Such flange connections are typically used in piping systems or equipment that require easy disassembly.

Rotating Flange Connection: This connection allows the flange to rotate to a certain degree during assembly. It can be employed for connecting equipment or pipelines that require alignment adjustments or rotational alignment.

Adjustable Flange Connection: This type of connection permits fine-tuning and adjustment during assembly. It is commonly used in systems that require a certain level of flexibility and adjustment capability to adapt to different operating conditions or environments.

flange

According to the shape of the flange, it can be classified into the following types:

flange

Square Flange

These flanges are square or rectangular in shape and usually have four screw holes for fixing. Square flanges can be used for special pipework connections, as well as for connecting square or rectangular pipes.

flange

Circular flange

Circular flanges are the most common type, having a rounded appearance and usually consisting of a rounded flange face and a screw hole for connection. This type of flange is widely used in a variety of pipe connections.

Oval flange

Oval flanges have an oval shape with an oval flange face and corresponding screw holes. Oval flanges may be used in some specific application scenarios, but are relatively rare.
