China Develops Large-scale Liquid Hydrogen System For The First Time

Liquid-hydrogen-China-flag-H2-truckChina has announced the successful development of a large-scale hydrogen system, capable of storing up to 100 kilograms of H2, for vehicle integration. This achievement represents a significant milestone in China's sustainable transportation sector.

The development of this hydrogen system is led by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). It is specifically designed for road vehicles such as trucks, enabling clean propulsion.

The system is entirely manufactured in China and serves as a critical component for heavy-duty trucks utilizing H2 power. Its primary objective is to enhance the vehicle's range, allowing it to travel over 1,000 kilometers (approximately 620 miles) on a full tank.

Compared to its predecessor, the latest version of the system boasts a substantial increase in effective volume, approximately 20%, without enlarging the overall tank size. Moreover, the new tanks come at a more affordable price due to a 30% reduction in design and manufacturing costs.

With the ability to accommodate up to 100 kilograms of hydrogen, the system complies with international standards for system quality. According to representatives from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, it also meets the requirements for hydrogen storage density and refueling time.

China has been actively advancing in the hydrogen ecosystem and is determined to become a major participant in this clean energy form. Significant progress has been made in various crucial areas, including vehicle design, distribution, and storage.
